Part 1 - Origin Story.

Part 2 - Much more successful than the first, usually critically acclaimed as better than the first.

Part 3 - Mediocre cash-in, doesn't maintain quality of the first two, shuned by fans

Part 4 - Reboot, story usually retold or taken in new direction

Part 5 - Critically acclaimed return to brilliance following the reboot.

Part 6 - Mediocre cash-in, doesn't maintain quality of the others.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat
